Children’s Rooms

Jelly Babies Room (4 months – 2 years old)

The Jelly Babies Room is designed to suit the needs of children between 4 months and 2 years old. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which sets the standard of learning, development and care of the children from birth to 5 years. This curriculum is reinforced in the planning of the room. We also use and follow the EYFS on tapestry which will be set up when your child starts at Rainbow Nursery.

We have different areas in the room which allow the children to explore and engage in a wide range of activities and toys. Our room is split into a black and white area, book corner, sensory area, music area, puzzle area, small world and construction area and a home corner. We have a low-level table on the hard floor area which is used for various messy activities. The babies start their day off with some singing using song puppets before going off to do an activity as a group, individually or to play and explore. Group messy play activities include painting, gloop and water play. We try to venture outside in most weathers to play with the toys, climbing frame or slide and in the sandpit. These are all great ways to promote their main areas of development.

Our Jelly Babies Room has its own separate Sleep Room, we have six cots and provide beds for children that are soon to transition into our Jelly Tots Room. This room provides the quite needed for sleep time and is away from the main room. We play calming music and  project lights on the ceiling. Staff are guided by the child’s individual sleep routine and follow the sleep times they would when in their own home environment.

Jelly Tots Room (2 – 3 years old)

The Jelly Tots room is designed to suit the needs of the children aged 2-3 years old. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which sets the standard of learning and development and promotes the inclusion of all children. This is reinforced in the planning of the room for each child. We use Tapestry an online journal to record their observation and learning journey whilst at Nursery.

In Jelly Tots we have two areas for the children to explore and interact with a variety of toys. We have a big cosy book area, a home corner, role play area, sensory and music area, small world toys, construction and maths area. In another part of the room we have a writing and mark making table and a tray for sensory exploration. We have a Self Care Station for water bottles, cups and tissues with a mirror to promote the children’s independence.

Attached to our room we have our own garden which we use for free flow play. We also use the main garden and woodland area to provide additional outdoor experiences.
